Eighteen years, one bench, and a stubborn love of curves.
Rooted Furni began in a rented garage with a single workbench and a pile of storm-felled walnut nobody else wanted. What started as an experiment in "letting the wood decide" became a studio philosophy: every piece we build takes its shape from the material in front of us, not the other way around.
Today a dozen carvers, upholsterers, and finishers work across our Boulder workshop — still following that first rule.
The growth rings of the studio
-
2008
First bench, first chair
A single garage workshop and a reclaimed-walnut dining chair that took four months to get right.
-
2013
Studio move
Relocated to our current workshop on 75th Street, adding a dedicated upholstery room.
-
2018
The Grove Collection
Our first full botanical-form line — blob-frame seating shaped directly from branch templates.
-
2026
Twelve carvers strong
Still hand-finishing every piece, now shipping nationwide with the same first-bench care.
Grown, not forced
Every silhouette follows the material's natural bend rather than fighting it into a straight edge.
Slow by design
A single sofa frame takes eleven days from rough timber to finished joinery. We don't rush the grain.
Closed-loop timber
Offcuts become small goods, sawdust becomes mulch for the workshop garden. Nothing leaves as waste.
From felled branch to finished frame
Select
We source reclaimed and storm-felled hardwood within 200km of the workshop.
Steam & bend
Timber is steamed and shaped over hand-built forms to find its organic curve.
Join
Mortise-and-tenon joinery, no metal fasteners, built to be repaired for decades.
Finish
Hand-rubbed natural oils and undyed linen upholstery, cut and sewn in-house.
